Folegandros, Greece, 2022. Original Watercolour by Andrew Logan
This watercolour painting is part of a small series of beautiful new watercolours made by Andrew Logan on recent travels to Greece and Italy in June 2022.
Folegandros is a Greek island of incredible natural beauty located between Paros and Santorini. Andrew visited Folegandros in June 2022, whilst at home the UK celebrated the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
Andrew travelled to this small, rocky island by ferry from Santorini. He was immediately impressed by how clean the island was, Folegandros is very proud to have no litter, giving it a wonderful, unspoiled charm.
On this trip Andrew made a series of small, landscape postcard sized watercolours entitled "The View From My Room."
At 9.30am, following his early morning yoga session and breakfast, Andrew would head back to his terrace, and paint the daily view of the headland and his shining white terrace.
These works are a great snapshot of his trip, and showcase Andrew's great ability to frame and capture a scene in watercolour. Andrew was fascinated by the juxtaposition of the shining white terraces, scrubbed daily by fastidious cleaners (whose orange and red cleaning buckets can be seen in some of the paintings) against the crags and rocks of the island and the incredible blue sky. The stark white, cubist buildings cast incredible shadows against the terraces, in great contrast with the rugged rocks and deep blue green sea beyond.
