COAL LOVE SPOON has a Welsh Lovespoon at it's centre, which Andrew collected from the Big Pit National Coal Museum in the Blaenafon Industrial Landscape - a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The lovespoon originated in Wales hundreds of years ago and the earliest known example, from 1677 can be found at the Welsh National Folk Museum in Cardiff. Lovespoons were carved with symbols imbued many meanings, with different parts of Wales often having different designs related to the local area or trade. The practice of lovingly crafting and gifting lovespoons was widespread during the 18th and 19th centuries, when they were offered by young Welsh lovers to the object of their desire.

This lovepoon features the Welsh dragon, a symbol of protection, a knot and a heart - symbolising everlasting love - making this brooch a perfect gift this Valentine's Day!

Large enough to make a statement and with enough details to demand closer inspection, COAL LOVE SPOON features a striking collection of unusual glass from Andrew Logan's collection.

The two sides of the heart have been formed using shards of smoked black glass, and marbled black and white glass. These have been set into black resin, which has been covered on all sides by sparkling black and multicolour glitter. This is a truly unusual and standout piece of Andrew's wearable art.

This piece measures approximately 10.5 by 11cm at its widest points and weighs 49g. It can be attached to your chosen garment using a gold coloured safety pin embedded into the back of the brooch.

This piece has been handmade with joy by Andrew Logan in his studio in mid-Wales. Each piece of Wearable Art is signed and dated by Andrew on the reverse.
